Pirate girls beat Toledo

Vashon’s girls stayed alive in the State Basketball Tournament with a 41-34 win over the Toledo Indians.

Vashon took the lead early and never gave it up, extending it to as much as 14 points at one point in the third quarter.

Kelly Costello led Vashon with 15 points, Kiki Means had 9 and Charlotte added 8.

Vashon plays Seattle Christian at 11 a.m. tomorrow.

Island resident since 1989. Retired in 2006 after almost 11 years as Beachcomber sports editor and photographer. Has been a volunteer assistant coach for Vashon High School cross country, track and soccer teams.
